Grades of Membership

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland offers five grades of membership which represent the different stages of a surveyor’s career.

Associate Trainee (Student)
An Associate Trainee (Student) member of the Society is one enrolled on an RICS/SCSI accredited course.

Associate Trainees are entitled to:
•    Access to the members’ centre of the website
•    Society publications (reports, professional group ezines, quarterly updates, the Education newsletter)
•    Access to free 1-hour evening CPD lectures, which are available to the membership nationwide
 
Trainee
A trainee member of the Society is:
•    A graduate of an RICS/SCSI accredited course, in relevant employment
•    A sandwich year student on an RICS/SCSI accredited undergraduate course, in relevant employment
•    A final year student on a part-time RICS/SCSI accredited undergraduate course, in relevant employment
•    A student on a part-time/distance learning RICS/SCSI accredited postgraduate course, in relevant employment
•    Trainee members are enrolled on to the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC), a period of structured on-the-job training, the successful completion of which results in their being elected as a Member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (MSCSI), a Chartered Surveyor.
 
Professional Member
•    A Member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (MSCSI) is the designation for Chartered Surveyors in the Republic of Ireland.
•    In order to become a MSCSI, members must have an accredited qualification and have successfully completed the APC.
•    The designation of MSCSI is an internationally recognised mark of academic and professional excellence.
•    Professional Members of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland are entitled to dual membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) – the representative body for Chartered Surveyors worldwide.
•    Members of the RICS (Chartered Surveyors) who practice in Ireland are entitled to apply to become Members of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.
 
Fellow
•    There has been a notable increase in the numbers applying for Fellowship grade of the Society.
•    Fellowship is a prestigious award that reflects the career achievements of property, construction and land professionals – and attaining Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland Fellowship is regarded as a true mark of distinction in the industry.
•    In order to be eligible to apply for Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland Fellowship, you must be Chartered for a minimum of five years. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate successful career progression, a significant contribution to the profession (this could include participation in Society committees/publications/APC process), and a planned and committed approach to Continuing Professional Development.
