Presented by Val O'Brien, this informative lunch time CPD will focus on dilapidations and provide an overview to SCSI members.
Val O’Brien is a chartered building surveyor with 30 years’ experience in building surveying. Over the years, Val has concentrated on the field of dilapidations and has become an expert in this area. Val advises a wide range of both tenants and landlords on dilapidations matters and has represented high profile clients on some very large dilapidation projects.
Val was part of the SCSI team who drafted up the guidance note to best practice on dilapidations which is now the widely accepted practice for dealing with dilapidation claims. Val has presented various lectures on dilapidations to the SCSI, some of the major legal practices, the HSE and the OPW. Val is at the forefront in standing out, clarifying and offering clear opinions with appropriate explanations and reasoning on what might otherwise appear complex dilapidation issues. Val’s CPD will include a brief background on dilapidations and will set out the principles and practice to be followed both when preparing schedules of dilapidations on behalf of a landlord or when preparing a response on behalf of a tenant and will give examples of typical dilapidation claims that he has been involved with.
Val has his own practice with a staff of 13 and are involved in the full range of building surveying services.
