This CPD will deal with the 4th and 5th Dimensions (4D&5D) of the BIM process. The speakers will discuss the basics in the 4D and 5D BIM workflow and outline how QSs take the first steps into a digital environment, leveraging BIM, while also maintaining their current services. The CPD will address good practice in 5D Cost Management as well as address some of the issues to look out for when you receive a BIM model.
Ross is originally from Limerick but has spent most of the last 10 years living with his wife in Copenhagen Denmark. Ross has been working in the construction industry for nearly 20 years for both contractors and consultants. He has a BSc & MBA in Construction Management from the College of Estate Management in Reading University and is a MRICS & MCIOB. Ross’s passion is progress and change for the greater good, both professionally and personally, changing the way we delivery projects through technology so that the industry becomes more efficient and reduces waste. Ross works with his company in Denmark progressing the Nordic understanding of the Quantity Surveying profession in collaboration with the RICS Nordic and other dedicated professionals.
Dr. Dermot Kehily
Dermot is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and has over 25 years experience in the Construction Industry, in both the United States and Ireland in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and in Project Controls. In 2007 he joined the School of Surveying and Construction Management in Technological University (TU) Dublin and is currently delivering modules on Quantity Surveying and Construction Management Programmes. Dermot has experience and has carried out extensive research in the areas of Digitisation in construction, Sustainability and Life Cycle Costing (LCC). Dermot completed a PhD in ‘Leveraging Building Information Modelling (BIM) for LCC’ in 2016, and collaborates with numerous BIM technology vendors, educating students and practitioners in digitisation and BIM as well as providing consultancy services in the same.
Ruairi is a Lecturer at the Technological University (TU) Dublin. Ruairi has over 20 years’ experience in the Construction Industry ranging from educational facilities to multi-storey concrete frame structures, working with some of the largest clients and contractors in the country. Ruairi graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with an honours degree in Construction Management and has since completed a MA in Law from Dublin Institute of Technology and an MSc in Built Environment from Heriot Watt University. Since commencing in TU Dublin, Ruairi has researched Construction Management and Building Information Modelling and the interdependence between these in ensuring the delivery of construction projects on time, to the required specification, on budget and ensuring the health and safety of all on the project. The delivery of Graduates to the Construction Industry prepared for the competitive environment they are about to enter is something Ruairi is very passionate about. Ruairi has a strong commitment to research and scholarly activity and has achieved significant professional success through research, publications and on-going professional activities. Ruairi has also lectured on the BSc. in Facilities and Property Management for the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland for the last 10 years.
