  • Forming part of our Autumn / Winter series of online soft skills and APC mandatory competency workshops, we are pleased to welcome back Sonya Meekel for a half day workshop focusing on presentation skills.

    Confident communication and the ability to present is a major competitive advantage in any business. We present in all realms of business from chairing of meetings to the presentations of tenders, it is a critical skill.

    This course will show you the most important aspects to building an effective presentation, from planning & preparation, the inclusion of visual aids as well as the actual delivery.

    • What are the components of an effective presentation?
    • Ways to capture an audience
    • Powerful Communication- using your voice, tone and body language 
    • Preparation Strategies
    • Presentation aids- graphs, colour, physical objects 
    • Preparing yourself- practice, appearance, confidence 
    • Doing the presentation- audience rapport, speaking clearly, managing nerves, closing.

    Who should attend?

    This workshop is pertinent for all APC trainees working on their mandatory competencies, particularly the Communication & Negotiation competency, requiring candidates to effectively demonstrate their presentation skills. Perhaps you are planning to undertake your Final Assessment interview in the coming 6 months, then this workshop will be of great value to you.

    Regardless of your career stage, you might find yourself delivering an increased number of presentations whether online or in person, and participating in this workshop will support you in improving your presentation skills or learn new techniques to support better working practices whether you are continuing to work remotely or are preparing to return to the physical office.

    Sonya Meekel MBA, MSc, M.A, P.G Dip.Proj Man, P.G Dip Ed, BSc Eng  C.Eng, M.I.E.I.,

    Sonya is a Lecture at the Technical University (TU) Dublin. Sonya has over 20 years’ experience in the Construction Industry having worked as a Design Build Consultant Engineer and also as a Project Manager. Sonya graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology with and honours degree in Structural Engineering and has since continued her studies extensively and has just recently completed a MBA with the Technological University Dublin.

    The delivery of Graduates to the Construction Industry prepared for the competitive world is an area of great passion for Sonya. The most recent research from this MBA was the Strategic Imperatives of Soft Skill Training and Development, she has embedded into her role as Work Placement Coordinator for the Construction Management Programme within TuDublin. Sonya has a strong commitment to research and scholarly activity and now Lecturers in Construction Management at Technological University Dublin, College of Engineering and Built Environment where she specialises in People Management, Soft Skill Development and Health and Safety.
