What is CPD?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the means by which professionals – including Chartered Surveyors – maintain the knowledge and skills necessary for their work and the services they provide.

CPD is important:

  • To improve your professional competence for your own benefit and that of your clients, employers and the general public

  • To enable you to demonstrate how you have sought to maintain your competence in the event of a claim or allegation

  • To comply with SCSI regulations

  • To gain knowledge needed to move into a new area of business

  • To gain a skill needed for promotion, such as management expertise

  • To keep abreast of new developments in your area of expertise and of new advances technology

The attainment of CPD should involve a structured approach to learning, encompassing knowledge, skills and practical experience.

CPD can involve any relevant learning activity, whether formal and structured or informal and self-directed. Download CPD and Training – Your Commitment to Maintaining the Highest Professional Standards to see the Society’s guidance documentation relating to CPD.
