Pathway Guides

Pathway Guides are a supplementary resource aimed at providing guidance to APC trainees, counselors and assessors on the main competencies of each of the pathways.

The guidance has been drawn up by experienced practitioners and aims to give you a clear and practical understanding of how to apply the listed core and optional competencies in the context of each pathway.

The official competency definitions (at levels one, two and three) are provided, followed by a description of the key knowledge and activities that are likely to fall within the scope of each competency.

The information provided is designed to be helpful but informal guidance. The knowledge and activities described under each competency are not exhaustive and should not be relied upon as any form of revision list. Candidates must satisfy themselves and their employers that they have reached the required level of attainment before applying for Final Assessment.

In December 2019, some pathways were updated with minor changes.  Candidates already enrolled on the APC will continue on the pathway they previously enrolled on.  These old pathway documents are available here:
