The Senior Quantity Surveyor will work within the senior management team as a senior contributor to complex bids in Ireland and the UK


Need to Have


  • Qualification in Quantity Surveying and /or Civil Engineering.

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate a successful career history with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in estimating within the Building or Civil Engineering sectors.

  • Excellent communication skills Must be commercially astute

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines Previous Experience in Power & Telecoms Industry an advantage

  • Advanced Excel user with experience of Estimating software packages an advantage Familiar with Microsoft Project

  • Experience with FIDIC and NEC3 contracts an advantage

Need to Do


  • Responsible for all aspects of the estimate working from first principles

  • Will include more complex and detailed bids assisting other group companies.

  • Reviews proposal specifications and drawings, attends pre-bid meetings etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

  • Provides complete conceptual bid work, and final estimating input on complex projects.

  • Provides technical support to personnel preparing discipline estimates for assigned bids.

  • Ensures all working documents and data are maintained to back-up estimate figures.

  • Supervises and coordinates estimate support staff on larger projects.

  • Advises Department Manager as to cost and schedule fluctuations, improved material, or other factors affecting construction.

  • Explores Value Engineering for all applicable projects or situations.

  • Reviews market labour and equipment rates and advise accordingly.

  • Completes post-bid analyses on jobs bid, but not received. Tracks bidding success and percentages, and analyses fiscal period bid performance.

  • Responsible for contract analysis and review of tenders.

  • May assist Departmental Manager in the coordination of overall corporate estimating functions, including systems development and staff training.

  • Develop and maintain costs database for the UK and Irish markets ensuring best market value Need to Be Strong communicator with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills Must take ownership for tasks and responsibilities Able to operate in a dynamic and fast paced organization Proficient people manager and able to manage team to optimum performance Detailed orientated with proven organisational ability Willing to travel when required
