How can we get rid of the damp below our bay window?

The area under my 1930s front bay window has been damp since we moved in more than 30 years ago. We got it underpinned three years ago with the supervision of a professional engineer, and replaced the double-glazed windows and also the cast-iron down pipe . We also got a groove cut into the underside of the window sill.

Mould is growing around the windows and in the house

The windows in my house are double glazed with wooden frames and in the last six months there has been a huge amount of mould growing around the windows and in the house. Rain is getting into our bathroom – what should we do?

We have an ongoing issue in a second floor bathroom. When there is a lot of rain, it appears to get in through the outside wall extractor-fan vent cover. This is causing damp and water damage in the bathroom. Is there an external extractor-fan vent cover that could be fitted to prevent this from happening?

Tackling Mould

We recently found mould on the wall behind the wardrobe in my boyfriend’s mother’s house. We quickly cleaned and treated with bleach. The walls are covered in a polystyrene-type paper. About a week later we noticed tiny, white mites crawling all over the surface of her wardrobe. What can we do to get rid of them?

How do I deal with problem of underfloor water accumulation?

I live in a semi-detached house that was built in the 1970s. The heavy rain of recent months has resulted in the accumulation of water in the sub-floor void. I am concerned the accumulating water will lead to rising damp and I want to know how the water is getting in and how to stop it. Any advice on where I should begin would be greatly appreciated.

Wet, wet, wet

We recently upgraded our dormer bungalow house. We fitted triple glazed windows and doors and used external insulation. The house is fine but items stored in the attic are getting wet due to condensation and we have water staining on the rafters. We asked a dampness expert to visit, he suggested we use extra roof battens to allow more air into the attic. This is going to be very expensive. Can you suggest any other solution?

Soil Pipe Dislodged

Recently I had a new bathroom installed. It appears the soil pipe, which was enclosed prior to installation, is no longer enclosed and has been repositioned into the wall. Recently the soil pipe has become dislodged and a damp patch has appeared on the ceiling, quite close to where the pipe used to run. Is there a connection between the dislodging of the pipe and the appearance of this damp patch? What should I do to remedy this?
